It may be one of the most cynical cash grabs in publishing history. It’s also going to be one of the most lucrative betrayals of conventional journalistic practice ever. And it’s worse than you think.
Thank you for this. The best $6 I’ve spent in awhile - and much better than buying the book and filling Tapper’s grifty pockets.
One thing I couldn’t help but think about with him forgetting the names of aides close to him: this happens to overwhelmed parents all the time. Who hasn’t been called the name of their sibling by their mother or father when in a moment of pressure when the family is rushing out the door, etc. My mom used to call my by my brother’s names in the 90’s sometimes and she’s still sharp as a tack 30 years later. Forgetting people’s names happens. Politicians are humans too.
Much needed scathing review and done as only you could do it. Jake Tapper didn't miss his chance to write an actually revelatory book. Jake Tapper is incapable of doing so. To paraphrase Obama, Jake Tapper left journalism to go to CNN because journalism is hard and rarely puts one in the spot light. Jake Tapper is a light weight who craves attention. Who better to write this piece of shit book?
Thank you for this summary. You confirmed my impression of the book and why I would never read it. I found the premise of Tapper’s book difficult to swallow. I follow politics, watched Biden and Trump. There was no comparison between the two men - Biden was/is more fit emotionally, physically, and mentally than Trump. His biggest fault - being an introvert, able to do what was necessary, but not a showman, entertainer: he did not need to be the center of attention. Nope, a mone grab. I am disappointed in Jake Tapper.
THANK YOU!! I cannot thank you enough for this review. Honestly, I've watched & listened to numerous psychologists/psychiatrists and they have *all* said that Joe Biden has never shown signs of dementia. He was/is showing signs of the natural course of aging: slower/softer speech, slight feet/balance issues but nothing whatsoever about any cognitive issues.
And, as far as that debate is concerned, I could see Biden's brain working as he listened to & was pummeled by (Gish Gallop) F47's spew of lies. I could see him expressing incredulity about what he was hearing, & then figuring out which of the lies to address, how many, & calculate a response, taking into account his stuttering. I could see it in his eyes! I was happy to hear George Conway saw it, too.
As a parent whose son stutters, I recognize the look & sometimes, turmoil of getting out certain words, or abandoning trying to and go a different path to speak what needs to be said. It was all so clear to me! Plus, I had Dr. Bandy Lee and Dr. John Gartner and 100s of other professionals backing up what we've all been witnessing w/F47's sociopathy, and actual dementia.
I find it despicable that Jake Tapper wrote this book, or when anyone suggests Biden suffered/suffers from mental decline and/or dementia. It's all lies/projection. Thank you for calling him out, Seth.
This entire debacle proves one thing most of all: the Biden should not have stepped aside, and that the press and the high-ranking Democrats should not have panicked. They needed to circle the wagons, point out that "Elections are marathons, not sprints," and that "Republicans don't change horses midstream, so we shouldn't, either." They should've told George Clooney, Abigail Disney, Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos to pound sand, that "We don't need your money that badly. We can do this without you." After all, Biden was pulling a lot from grassroots donors, who didn't want him to leave.
As a last resort, Biden could've sold it all by saying, "You say you want me gone. I'll be gone in 2025 either. I will gladly resign and hand over the reins to VP Harris. But you have to vote for me in November before that happens. We have to ensure Donald Trump doesn't win, above all else. I'm not running for myself or my ego. I'm running for America, because it's best for America that Donald Trump doesn't win. I'll gladly step aside after January 20, but you need to vote and prevent Donald Trump from winning before that happens."
Biden would've easily recovered in time for the September ABC debate and the momentum shifting towards him again, saying "Biden Scores Comeback." Harris would've pinned Vance to the floor in the VP debate.
On the day that Biden announced he was not running and Kamala Harris was, I was riding my bike and meeting up with friends. When I met them they were celebrating. They asked "did I hear?" and then told me about the announcement. My response was why were they celebrating? They responded he was too old. One of the people I was meeting is 88 retired attorney, so that was awkward. My response was it was sad that the media had defamed President Biden so completely, he has proven to be one of the best presidents of my lifetime. I should mention that they have CNN running in the house 24/7. I knew from that moment we were going to lose. Even Tramp saw the Harris candidacy as a strike of luck as he had only worried about beating the candidate Joe Biden. He cold not have been handed a greater gift. Ezra Klein was the largest contributor to the attack on Biden's age/acuity and it seemed his relentless quest to prove himself right on this score had no end and felt utterly juvenile. I was also listening to another journalist who wrote a piece about the Biden mental decline cover up. He had access to all of the staff of the Biden Administration. He waxed on and on about all the ways this was a cover up. When the interviewer asked what did all of these people who worked with him every day say about his intellectual abilities? He responded, they said that he was fine, he was sharp, his cabinet meetings were run decisively and his decisions were sound. The author said he couldn't believe they thought so, continuing by saying that their impression of Biden's abilities defied any rational reasonable explanation. Yes, the information desert has only become worse the population repeats rumors (even ones I wish to be true), without any substantiation. They learned from the experts. So it goes
Thanks for this excellent article. Money really trumps everything for too many Americans, including now it appears Jake Tapper, a sellout who’s ruined his reputation. We must push against American greed and nominate as a presidential candidate a person who embodies the good in America. In my opinion the best chance of winning would be a straight, white, male Christian. (Going on precedent, not personal preference.) Andy Beshear comes to mind, and the fact that he’s a relatively young governor outside the DC beltway is a plus.
Seth pls checkout Adam mockler. Elon is on Twitter saying the reason epestein files won't be released is bc trump is on them. I've been saying that beings it was trumps fbi that raided epsteins island back in 2019.
Is there any truth to the idea that Tapper has held a grudge after he was turned down for an “exclusive” as Beau Biden was dying? Sounds on par, but not sure of the source.
Of the lack of loyalty of the left/centre/media construct.
The point is... in a tribal battle... you don't diss your man. But they do....!!
Trump knew Biden could beat him.
So he went on and on about how old he was until George Fucking Clooney agreed with him. In a tribal fight.. a gang fight.. you don't get adherents by showing weakness.
But the fucking dems... they want a good candidate for president. ...not the fucking tool for the job.

I have been so stressed at times, that I have said, You know what your name is! " to my grandkids, after I had gone through half the list😂
