I had vowed to NEVER be on any social media of any kind, no pics, no Twitter etc. because it could/would consume me. Up until the election I was successful in getting my news from regular news channels, mostly CNN. I just recently realized I can tootle through Twitter w/o an account (it’s ok to laugh🤣) that’s where I found you and your breaking “Jan. 5th War Council Meeting. Now look at me! Reading and posting comments! (Mama said don’t ever say NEVER!) I so do appreciate all of your hard work cutting through all the BS that circulates. I trust you, I wouldn’t give my email out to just anyone. Thank you for being my first (and last). Peace Brother
With all due respect, there's an unfortunate typo is point 9. The word should be "inappropriate," I believe: "the call would have been wildly [in]appropriate but not part of a coordinated insurrection." And again in point 12. The word should be "an," not "and": "Now that he’s incited an[d] insurrection...."
It would be nice to know how much coup planning took place on the golf course!
Trump, I believe, used his golfing as his tool for underhanded projects. An example would be the sabotage of the Post Office. That is one, there were hundreds.
Seth. RE your tweet asking why are GOP still supporting trump even tho money spigot is turning off? What else can we learn about the GOP or RNC being possible co-conspirators in all of Trumps crimes ? Remember the NRA funneling $ thing? Broidy and Michael Cohen were RNC finance chairs ? I’ve long wondered why people view their actions thru a political lens rather than as potentially being in on it
I wonder about this also. Remember Lindsey Graham called the Secretary of State in GA to do the same thing Trump did basically. I'm stilled miffed that there has been no consequences for him doing that. There has to be more co-conspirators in this whole thing via the GOP, etc.
Thanks so much for your reporting on this issue: I've learned a great deal about the planning that occurred before Jan 6.
A serious question: why did the attempted coup fail? Did Trump lose his nerve at the last minute? Was it a failure of planning? (A friend suggested that he had planned only to the attack on the Capitol, but not beyond.). Did someone thwart his attempts to prevent any defense for the Capitol (for example, someone at DOD)?
My theory on why the coup failed is that it was a typical half-assed Trump scheme that, characteristically, wasn’t thought out or through with any rigor. He’s clearly not a particularly bright or astute guy, but as an extreme narcissist he also has unbounded faith in his abilities. That’s a bad combo. These attributes predispose him—strongly—to magical thinking: a belief any half-assed scheme he concocts is brilliant and will—somehow—work out. Folks like that squander inherited fortunes and go through multiple bankruptcies. They also hatch out desperate, ridiculous, even traitorous schemes when their overblown and exalted self-image is threatened by, say, a humiliating election loss that leaves them suddenly exposed to criminal prosecutions and economic catastrophe—and magically assume such nutty schemes will save them.
Good job. I want to say, though, that yours is the only assessment I have read to indicate that disqualification from future office can be imposed even if the removal from office vote goes in the former president's favor.
fwiw, I was also under the false impression that removal from office was the prerequisite for future disqualification. (Can't remember the source) But am I correct that the latter penalty requires a lower voting threshold -- essentially the VP vote?
Great analysis. Really enjoyed seeing it broken down like this. And the best thing is that I didn't have to read the (likely horrifically written) response itself.
This is so reassuring I may sleep better tonight. Also, #10, hysterical. Thanks for all this, Seth.

Did I also mention I am a minimalist? I just received my 1st like🤣
How do we get your brilliant analysis in front of the Impeachment Managers?
What she just said!

To me....They act like mob underlings from the movies some time

Follow more lawyers on Twitter, not the ones on CNN, in my view. There have been a number of them who have pointed out the same thing that Seth has.

Brilliant Seth, Thank you! If I could pick one thing that got me through the last four years, I would have to say it is you.

How often does the Q & A segment come out for subscribers?
They probably had to sign NDAs.
