Thanks, Seth. I was unaware of Musk's treatment of Brazil. Brazil has done the right thing. I wish the US would also shutter Twitter/X.

Xitter (pronounced "Shitter") should be shut down everywhere, and Musk should have his security clearance revoked and be removed from Space-X as a "national security threat."

And people should stop buying his tinny fucking toys. The Official Car of White Lib'ruls Stupid Enough To Think Buying One Helps The Planet.

There are other people besides "white liberals" who would drive Teslas and this white liberal would never give him a dime. (Anytime we lump people into a group to denigrate them we are being a bigot although I understand where you're coming from).

Yeah, I know. But let me assure you that in Encino CA, you can throw a stick in any direction and hit one of the damn things, and it's for sure they are owned by white lib'ruls in this neighborhood.

I love the spelling suggestion. Now posting can be "taking a Xit."

I really did laugh out loud.

But he's a multi-billionaire. You can't do that to a multi-billionaire. It's just not done. They'll get mad and do something. Oh no. The rest of the world should watch and learn. Go Brazil!

Thanks Seth. It's good to have some background, as I only woke up to the headline of "Brazil banning X". I hope many more countries will do what Brazil has done. Such untethered free speech is not allowed here in Europe, yet we're subjected to it daily on platforms like X. I banned it the day Musk took over because I knew it wasn't good for my health. It's time responsible governments did the same.

Other countries should follow Brazil's lead. I can't go there lately without getting disgusted. The "open and in your face" hatred for Native Americans Black people and Jewish people is astounding that anyone could think that's acceptable in this day and age, I don't get it. What can we do? Anything?

founding

Ditto. I have not been there for some time. It is very adolescent and not worth the effort.

Why is Musk such a dick? Was always this bad or did it get worse after his fortune grew?

Musk and Thiel got their start with PayPal, which they sold for a boatload. Then in 2015, they joined forces again, financing a little start-up known as Open AI. Sold that for another boatload. Now, it appears, their next venture is Bond-villain world domination.

Perfect summary and it’s greatly appreciated. Seriously, my hubby had a stroke last year and I’m so busy now that I’ve just been reading headlines & skimming. This is awesome!

Thank you. Now… what can be done?

My like button? doesn't work, so here is a manual like! I would also like to know what can be done, and if the US gov. is taking any steps to in that direction.

I am not quite sure about whether Elon Musk is autistic or not but there’s a lot of suggestions on social media that he is. One of the traits of people on this spectrum is that they tend to lack empathy and seem not to have others well being in their focus. When someone like this manages to generate wealth the extent to which Elon has, he becomes a person who will tend to naturally put self first and have no conscience about misusing the immense power that great wealth brings. That is my concern. Unfortunately, malignant narcissism has the same self centred-ness.

trumpism is sure going viral; glad some places are standing up to it. Laws, we don't need to obey no stinkin' laws.

Starting in early Medieval Europe there were families that were so powerful that they give me the impression that they were something on the order of mafia clans. By the 7th century some of these families were more powerful than kings, rather like the relationship between oligarchs and governments today in that governments have such a hard time controlling today's billionaires. Thank you for this uplifting news, which shows that billionaires *can* be controlled when there is a will to do so.

I'd rather see twitter, seized by the Gov't, run as a non profit like Voice of America, as an investment in Destroying evil doers, Nazi sympathizers & related propaganda

Does Brazil even have a protection for free speech like the U.S. does? I'm not familiar with their citizens rights.

No such thing as free speech... everything costs something.. trouble is that asshole has tons of cash.
