More & more of these enablers & plotters will be revealed as the investigations continue. As one thing leads to another Americans are going to have a difficult time grasping the enormity of this conspiracy & the implications to our nation. We need to see some of these miscreants arrested or held in detention pending trial. Otherwise, they are going to remain emboldened & continue their plotting, further disrupting society & causing political chaos. At what point is the evidence readily available sufficient to start pressing charges?

Holy Crap Cakes, Seth! Brilliant investigative work. But it makes me think, what if any one (or more) of those co-conspirators has subscribed to PROOF and knows that you’re hot on their trail? Stay safe, please. The world needs you. 🙏🙏🙏

I never realized that there were so many officials that wanted democracy to fail.

Yes. As a babyboomer, I have seen these types of people over the decades and heard grandparents and parents talk about knowing of them back in the 1930-40s. They actually are a right wing minority. They have always been there, and in the 1960s both William F. Buckley, Jr. and Goldwater warned their party to never empower them.

I had always wondered how Germany had succumbed to Nazi fascism. It wasn't until the 1980s that I got my first clue, when I saw people on the right use lying under oath to cover up their crimes that involved American government at the highest levels. Looking back, I now realize that the 1980 GOP was authoritarian-lite, consolidating a voting base that was unquestioning of authority, whether it be religious or governmental, and that would welcome a grandfatherly/fatherly leader (think Ronald Reagan) who would take care of them without having to do anything but check the voting box for whatever Republican candidate their GOP leaders or church pastor told them to vote for.

Also, these GOP leaders would promote taking America back to pre1960-70s, eliminating any cultural gains of women and "minorities" and any environmental gains. And there would be no more "scary" protests as 1960-70s, except those the GOP allowed/promoted over God (think abortion), guns, gays.

Although the Koch reactionary libertarian ideology only got 3% of the national vote in the 1980 election, it is now 100% GOP ideology, as the Kochs etal right wing billionaires would begin to salt culture and politics w their $$$ after David Koch returned to the GOP from his Libertarian Party in the late 1980s. The Kochs also brought w them their family history w the John Birch Society, the rw "nutters" as we used to call them, who Buckley & Goldwater warned against!

Oh, and IMHO 1989 marked the completion of the GOP Southern Strategy to draw away DEM white supremacist voters, when David Duke became a Republican.

Starting in 1990s GOPTV...FOX...helped spread the increasingly extremist GOP ideology. In the '90s the GOP broke politics w Newt Gingrich (Dems became enemies, fellow Reps [moderates] were RINOed [GOP liberals had already peeled away in the '80s], then govt under Obama, and now democracy using Trumpism. By 2009 I knew the GOP was irredeemable when party leadership publicly apologized to Rush Limbaugh. By 2012 the GOP had turned our govt from the 2-prty system our Founding Leaders bequeathed us into a de facto parliamentary system w/o recourse to coalition (as is found in stable parl systems) and where the GOP was no longer a party but a faction.

So true that we always had had outlandish people in govt and their voters who wanted to re-make govt and culture to their regressive liking, but the parties kept them dis-empowered nationally. Oh, and one last thing, America made the mistake of thinking that when the GOP was against Communism, that it was against ANY authoritarian govt, but, no, they were against left wing authoritarianism, but right wing authoritarianism was always liked by those who now hold power in today's GOP and would very much like America to be fascistic.

I agree with your thorough assessment of our recent political history. The GOP has put party over Country for years.

Which after Reagan, who I saw at the time as a danger to democracy and a blatant autocrat; we have the former head of the CIA. I have oft wondered is there any reality to former CIA, emphasis on former?

Yes, GHW Bush. In 1972 I was telling someone about Nixon opening up China and how wonderful that was. The older gentleman, who worked for an international oil company, smiled and said, "You know who opened up China? Oil companies. They've been there years helping China start up their oil industry." IMHO Bush having been in the Texas oil industry was a reason he was chosen both for a de facto American Ambassador to China in ' 74-75 and for CIA head in ' 76.

I'm sure all that helped him become Reagan's VP, as well as a VP to unite the Northeast Republican stock w the GOP's developing Southern voter (former Dem white supremacist) base, as NE born and bred Bush had by then spent over half his life in Texas. It also helped that w a CIA background he could run the Reagan White House Iran Contra scheme and running arms to Central America w drugs returning to the US (Hasenfus had the WH phone number in his "little black book" when he was shot down).

Interesting that Bill Barr started his GOP POTUS get-out-of-trouble/jail handler jobs w Bush, advising Bush to issue pardons for certain Iran Contra participants who could establish Bush's criminal involvement, thereby keeping him out of prison, too. Barr became GOP POTUS rescuer for Trump.

So, yeah, having been a CIA director can provide helpful knowledge and connections, as it certainly seemed that way for Poppy Bush.

More damning information. The House January 6th committee definitely needs to subpoena ginni’s privileged white self.

Ginni Thomas asserts she merely added comments on the coup-plan letter. We’d need the original electronic document for forensics to find the author. There’s another possible author with Ginni access among her tight circle: Justice Clarence Thomas. At a minimum, with the publicity of Ginni & Clarence’s loving and close relationship, I assume that Justice Thomas sees or knows about everything Ginni Thomas writes or edits or inserts comments. I’d like the Jan6 Committee to subpoena Clarence Thomas as well.

I think it's going to be absolutely overwhelming to many people just how many were involved in this huge scheme to destroy our countries democracy and it's still ongoing. I’m curious about indictments. Will they all or mostly, come down at once? Or will they be strung out for a drip, drip, drip effect? This will be a Shock and Awe operation by DOJ like no other. The way it is received by the public will be important.

”The president’s supporters have stoked this concern: “If Biden ever became president, I’d tell Trump pardon yourself and pardon your family,” Sean Hannity said on his eponymous Fox News show on Monday.”

Interesting that AEI on Dec 4, 2020 published an article “ Yes, Trump Can Pardon Himself and His Family” by John Yoo. How many of Trump inside and outside lawyers and other close supporters were encouraging him to pardon himself just in case?

From the the article:

“Even though the election has ended, the controversies will not. With Michael Flynn now in the rear-view mirror, President Trump reportedly is considering issuing pardons to his children (Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka), his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and even Rudy Giuliani though none have been charged with a crime. Giuliani has returned the gesture by noting that Trump technically could pardon himself too.

The potential political disaster has not stopped the White House from throwing the idea around. According to a report this week in the New York Times, “speculation about pardon activity at the White House is churning furiously.” Politico reports preemptive pardons for as many as 20 aides and associates are under consideration. Trump apparently fears that the Biden administration may prosecute him and his family. The president’s supporters have stoked this concern: “If Biden ever became president, I’d tell Trump pardon yourself and pardon your family,” Sean Hannity said on his eponymous Fox News show on Monday.

These pardons, even one for the president himself, would not violate the Constitution. But they would set a terrible political precedent that would long tarnish Trump’s legacy — especially if he wants to play kingmaker in the Republican Party or even run again in 2024.”

“The broad scope of the pardon power allows a president, therefore, to constrain efforts by the bureaucracy, or Congress, to encourage subordinates to pursue an agenda at odds with his own. Suppose that a “deep state” had indeed cooked up a Trump-Russia collusion story, as some Republicans have argued. Suppose further that the bureaucracy advanced this narrative by abusing its powers under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to eavesdrop on Trump campaign officials and, ultimately, opened an investigation and prosecution of the Trump team. The pardon power would give Trump the ultimate control to end these probes.”

QUESTION, SETH: Even if Trump is carrying a pocket pardon for himself, it would cover only acts committed prior to the veto, right? So anything shady he did after that date, would not be covered by the pardon. Am I right or wrong about that? It's not like he quit trying to overthrow our government once he was out of office.... I suspect some digging would uncover seditious or illegal acts. Too bad he can't be charged with un-American acts. But then we'd get bogged down in debating what exactly defines an American act.
