Seth: really important to know whether there was any orders from the Trump administration itself to NOT provide assistance to the Capitol Police? The striking contrast between the overwhelming level of intelligence—not just secret, but overt and very public—that there would be a high probability/certainty of violence and the fact that NOTHING was done cries out for investigative reporting on whether the Trump administration or their allies ordered nothing to be done.

Why have we not heard about this?

I want to vote for Delegate Plaskett some day, for some national office.

I’m watching the impeachment team’s presentation and can’t help but wonder what exactly trump’s legal team will bring to the floor to defend the twice impeached former president. I can’t think of anything they could put forth that would explain away his authoritarian, horribly seditious behavior.

Why doesn't senate require senators to stay present, or they can't vote?

Also allow cameras inside?

Plaskett is doing superb curatorial lawyering

Bless you for doing this. I have to be in and out of work all day so these updates are a great way for me to quickly catch up on the gist of what's happening during the portions I can't watch myself.

Keep fighting the good fight, Seth! It's maddening to see how Lenz's scurrilous hit piece this morning in the Columbia Journalism Review has forced you to divert attention from your invaluable and amazing live-stacking work on the impeachment trial, and your ongoing follow-up on all the essential pieces you've posted here at the substack.

I can't help thinking it's no coincidence that the CJR story landed today of all days -- at the precise moment when mainstream reporting needs most to follow up your lead on just how Trump and his innermost circle (family members, Stone, Bannon, Flynn, Rudy G, et al.) were actively planning the logistics of Jan. 6 together with the mob's far-right organizers. (Isn't it looking increasingly likely that the Dec. 18 White House meeting that Jonathan Swan at Axios reported so well, resulted in choosing the occasion of electoral vote acceptance for a murderous 'last stand' mob action meant to force imposition of martial law, and likely too that occasions like the Jan. 5 Trump Hotel private quarters meeting nailed down the final details?) If those dots aren't connected, Trump's Senate supporters are going to keep their fingers in their ears and 'defend' acquittal votes by saying 'sure, Trump said it, and yeah, the mob did it, but he never planned for it to happen.' That just can't happen.

With apologies to Gandhi or whoever coined the phrase "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they hate you, then you win": corporate-supported news media have consistently ignored and laughed at your work, and are at this moment working at full-throated volume to throw hate on you. Time to win, Seth!

Seth, I have no idea how you do this every day. Just reading about it sends me into a "headspin". To be as close to it as you are, and understanding the legal rights and wrongs and documenting them, and being able to watch media do a terrible job of framing this in the right way, must be deeply disturbing for you. I sleep badly but I have no idea how you get any sleep at all.... We all appreciate you SO MUCH and I truly do not know how you have the energy and devotion to do this every day. I keep hoping that somewhere there are republicans who have some morals but it seems like the blackmail/noose over their head is bigger than we all can anticipate. Thank you again but please try to stay sane and happy.

This is utterly horrific. Watching Rep Senators waving Trump through conviction-free is sickening to the gut of anyone interested in government by the people and not by mindless deranged thugs. How the GOP can't be hemorrhaging support right now is beyond me. And I'm following from the other side of the Atlantic. God bless America because Trump & Co are no part of that great country.

Just for grammar. The expression is “ hoist on his own petard” not hoisted. As in “Trump was hoist on his own petard”. Love this site!

You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to realize who ‘access’ People like Haberman are in constant contact with.

CNN still books known Trump mouthpieces /liars
